Millinery heaven at The Eternal Headonist launch party

Hats, glorious hats. Fascinators galore. They’re everywhere in Melbourne during the Spring Racing Carnival. And at The Eternal Headonist launch party, they were elevated to art.

Held at the Anna Pappas Gallery in Prahran, as I walked in (past the photo call, where each guest got snapped), I was dazzled by dozens upon dozens of bespoke, couture, one-of-a-kind, adjectives-fail-me headwear.

Founded by milliner Annabel Allen, The Eternal Headonist’s launch showcased both hats-as-art and hats-as-accessories. Guests were allowed — nay, encouraged — to try on the dozen different millinery lines’ wares. Gloved assistants placed each just so on our heads. I went with a silver number, and it was by sheer force of will that I handed it back. So gorgeous.

Endless glasses of bubbles were poured and mini ice cream numbers (specially created for the night by Argentinian ice creamery Helados Jauja) were circulated. The cheese platter alone had me in a cheese-gasm. Everyone mingled, ogled, and posed in their finest behatted splendour.

The creme de la creme of Melbourne style was there in force, with Richard Nylon giving opening remarks. I had quite a few ‘I’ve been reading your site for years!’ moments: I struck up acquaintances with the lovely Iolanthe from Ruby Slipper; Leeyong of Style Wilderness; and Nikki from States of Style. It was marvellous seeing my existing style blogger pals: Sarah of Sarah Tulle, Kat and Michelle of Two Halves, and Sarah of Style Melbourne (who took amazing photos). Ladies, you all looked fab.

Best of all, the Eternal Headonist has a pop-up shop in Prahran from Sat. 27 September till Fri. 7 November. If you’re going to make a splash this Spring Racing season — and invest in quality — visit the Headonist first.
