On a classic Scottish summer day somewhere between sun and rain, The Arches in Edinburgh’s East End roared to a splendid opening with fizz, food trucks and fan fare.

The Waverley Arches are a row of 19 newly renovated Victorian arches on East Market Street, Edinburgh – part of the £150 million New Waverley development which is transforming the heart of the Old Town.  Excitingly the new development incorporates a host of new restaurants, bars, boutique shops.  Excitingly, the aim of the development is to attract independent, edgy and ground-breaking operations– whether it’s cutting edge retail and leisure venues, or unique cafes and restaurants.

With Fresh Revolution and La Favorita Pizza providing nibbles and plenty of fizz and wine for imbibement purposes, we were spoilt for choice for delectable edibles and beverages. The gorgeous homewares store Elk and Wolf and Buff Concept Store Salon are well worth a visit with spending fuelled by a smooth flat white from Baba Budan Coffee.

The Arches is perfectly situated at the East End of town, right beside the main train station and manages to create a fabulous buzzy atmosphere.  With a second phase due for development in spring next year, the New Waverley area is destined to be the summer’s hottest spot in town.
