Modo Mio: The Hills District’s Best-Kept Italian Secret.

Sydney’s Hills District has been keeping an incredible secret.

Modo Mio has brought michelin-level Italian cuisine to the suburbs (which alone is worth the Metro trip!). It’s elevated, refined techniques, with the authentic Italian charm that you love.

It’s an elegant yet approachable spot, where the woodfired pizza oven takes centre stage and the scent of freshly baked Nuvole – their signature puffed bread – fills the air. Light, crisp, and finished with flaky sea salt, it’s served straight from the oven to the table.

For Head Chef Stefano Bozza, he grew up mastering the art of pastries in his family’s Roman bakery, before honing his craft under legendary three-Michelin-star chef Niko Romito at Reale in Casadonna, one of Italy’s most celebrated dining destinations.

Inside Modo Mio, you’ll find intimate and moody interiors, with just the right amount of lighting. Soft jazz hums in the background and glasses of vino clink. Sip on a spicy Marg or unwind with a glass from the wine list while you take your time browsing the menu.

Standouts include the Fritto di Mare – delicately fried calamari and prawns with just the right amount of crunch. The Polpette is the perfect balance of tender meatballs swimming in a rich tomato sauce (that tastes just like Nonna’s!) and is showered with parmesan and cracked pepper. My tip? Order extra Nuvole to soak up the extra sauce.

Woodfired pizza plays a starring role, which finds a calm balance between Neapolitan and Roman styles. And beyond the pizza the menu journeys through Italy’s diverse regions, from coastal seafood dishes to handmade pasta.

Modo Mio is a new neighbourhood favourite, delivering an Italian dining experience that holds its own against Sydney’s best.

For dessert, choices are aplenty, with house favourites like Babba (rum infused sponge cake), Tiramisu and Graffa (Italian donuts).

Getting there is a breeze, simply hop on the new Sydney Metro where trains run from Martin Place to Castle Hill every five minutes. If you’re driving, Modo Mio has plenty of parking nearby.

Modo Mio is the perfect date night spot and restaurant for those celebrating birthday’s, anniversary’s or simply just wanting 5-star Italian, with no trip to the CBD necessary. Bookings are recommended, especially as this spot won’t be a secret for much longer!
