Hans Zimmer has become one of the most prolific film composers of our time. His list of credits is as expansive as his love of music – spanning some four decades. Movie lovers know that the best way to appreciate the Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy and Tony-winning talent is to listen. That’s exactly what the Sydney Symphony Orchestra wants you to do with its upcoming The Music of Hans Zimmer performance at the ICC Sydney Theatre.
Following three sold-out shows in 2023, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and podcasters Art of the Score will bring the power of Hans Zimmer’s biggest film scores to life for one night only on Friday, February 7 at 7pm.
Under the masterful baton of Jessica Gethin, audience members will be taken on a journey through the dark world of Batman, the soul-stirring power of Gladiator, Inception’s mind-altering dimensions, the swashbuckling flair of Pirates of the Caribbean and the iconic pride lands of The Lion King.
Art of the Score podcasters Andrew Pogson and Dan Golding will also guide the audience through the concert, providing commentary on the impactful and iconic scores.
Fascinating background stories are set to be shared including how Zimmer convinced Ridley Scott to alter the beginning of Gladiator or how he t inserted an anti-apartheid message into the lyrics of The Lion King by claiming the Zulu words were about butterflies.
Producer, Director, and Jazz Musician Andrew Pogson said the collaboration was a “dream come true”.
“Having the opportunity to collaborate once again with one of the world’s great orchestras, on the biggest stage in Sydney, presenting music from the most influential film composer of the 21st century is a dream come true,” Mr Pogson said.
“We can’t wait to share with audiences our love letter to Hans Zimmer alongside the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and delve deeply into what makes these great scores tick”.
Hans Zimmer has written film music for more than four decades, starting with the 1982 drama Moonlighting to his most recent work for the 2024 sci-fi epic Dune Part Two.
We could not possibly name every score Zimmer has written. His portfolio spans more than 150 films including Hollywood blockbusters such as Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049, Top Gun: Maverick, No Time to Die, Hidden Figures, 12 Years a Slave and Sherlock Homes.
The legendary composer also has an impressive list of accolades including Academy Awards for Best Original Score for The Lion King (1994) and Dune (2021), four Grammys, two Golden Globes and an Oscar.
