Kasippu: late night curry-house with karaoke and hydralyte slushies on tap.

House of Pocket has launched it’s newest Sydney venue – Kasippu. A new late night venue offering a vibrant mix of Sri Lankan curry, cocktails, live music, karaoke and (free!) hydralyte slushies.

Named after a popular homemade Sri Lankan liquor, Kasippu has become much more than just its namesake. Tucked away on Kent Street in Sydney, it’s a curry house and semi-hidden bar serving authentic Sri Lankan dishes alongside contemporary mixology.

The idea for Kasippu was born lakeside in Sri Lanka, when Head Chef Amila Hemchandra and House of Pocket founder Karl Schlothauer traveled to Sri Lanka. ‘We were eating curry, sipping Kasippu and singing karaoke. It’s here that the idea of the venue was born’.

Kasippu’s cocktail menu is a love letter to Sri Lanka. Take my advice and sip on their Falooda Milk Punch – a playful mix of Bacardi coconut rum, rose syrup and strawberry jelly. Pair your mains with Tiki Mango Lassi, a spicy-sweet combo of tequila, cardamom bitters and even a dash of curry powder. True to its name, Kasippu draws inspiration from Sri Lanka’s iconic homemade liquor. Almost everything behind the bar – syrups, cordials and tinctures are whipped up in-house.

Now onto the food. Head Chef Amila Hemchandra is the mastermind behind Kasippu’s menu, serving up Sri Lankan crowd-pleasers. Tuck into peppered beef stew, chicken koththu (thinly sliced roti tossed with curry, veggies and curry gravy), tempered dhal and flaky godamba roti that’s perfect for mopping up every last bite.

Save room for the “happy endings” – a bowl of treacle and curd that’s just the thing to cool your palate after a spice-filled feast.

House of Pocket CEO, Karl Schlothauer said of Kasippu: “While the venue is open, we will always be serving our full menu. A personal favourite of mine is the Pepper Beef Curry Kebab, washed down with free Hydralyte slushie with a spot of Karaoke.”

Late-night kebabs are also available from the front of the heritage listed building that Kasippu resides in. Whilst you’re in line, sip on a slushie or belt out a classic on the karaoke machine.

The best part? Kasippu is serving their full menu until 11.30am during the week and 1.30am on weekends (in case a late-night kebab, or curry is needed!)

Kasippu also hosts a series of local musicians and DJs throughout certain days of the week and weekends, making it the ideal late-night spot to take a group of friends, or a date for some bold cocktails and authentic curry.
