Night at The Barracks is back!
Set within Manly’s Iconic Barracks station, Night at The Barracks is a series of concerts set against the backdrop of North Head Sancturary’s Barracks Precinct.
One of the first shows to start the much-loved concert series off was Pete Murray. We were treated to support acts – Dave McCredie and Kyle Lionheart, which both set the tone for the much anticipated, Pete Murray. As soon as Aussie icon and much-loved singer-songwriter, Pete stepped on stage we all stopped to soak in his smoky melodies and effortlessly cool, coastal sounds.
Pete opened with a few of his classics – ‘So Beautiful’, ‘Always a Winner’ and ‘Opportunity’. He also performed songs from his Feeler, Summer at Eureka, Blue Sky Blue and Camacho Album, taking us on a rollercoaster of nostalgia.
The venue itself felt intimate (albeit open air and surrounded by native Australian bushland) and provided great acoustics to enjoy each act no matter where you were sitting, or standing throughout the venue. Throughout his set, Pete brought up a few memories and stories about the music. It was nice to see such a broad audience made up of all ages (even kids!) which proves that Pete remains such a beloved figure in the Australian music space.
Pete ended the evening with a beautiful, rendition of ‘Better Days’ where he invited us to sing along on the last few choruses, whilst the band continued playing. The atmosphere had a beautiful synergy where we all stood up and waved our phone flashlights whilst singing the last few choruses in unison.
