Khalid Live at the Sydney Opera House.

The Sydney Opera House Concert Hall proved to be an incredibly fitting setting for American multi-platinum singer-songwriter Khalid’s exclusive world premiere of his highly anticipated album, Sincere.

Having not graced Australian shores in five years, Khalid’s return to Sydney for a two-night-only show, was an anticipated testament to his deep connection to our city. The Texan-born singer made his striking entrance in a white denim two-piece, exuding an effortless kind-of-cool that only Khalid can, as he made his way onto the stage, his backup dancers in sleek dark attire moving swiftly behind him.

Despite the venue being packed to capacity, it felt remarkably intimate. Khalid’s sublime voice effortlessly filled the Concert Hall, with each new track from the album feeling exceptionally familiar. His engaging nuances with the audience between every few songs, combined with his impressive vocal range, made us feel like we were not just listening as an audience, but rather, like we were old friends.

Visually the performance was equally as captivating. The stage had been adorned with mirrors that created a layering effect, reflecting Khalid and his dancers in a dynamic and immersive experience throughout the show.

Khalid also treated the audience to beloved hits like ‘Young Dumb & Broke’, ‘Talk’ and ‘Better’. These much-loved hits played towards the end of his show had everyone up and out of their seats, dancing in momentum.

Named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2019, Khalid’s performance reaffirmed why he is a standout artist of his generation. With his captivating music and genuine connection with the people listening, Sydney was certainly treated to an exclusive many won’t forget.
