The Winery Surry Hills winter glamping

Winter glamping popup at The Winery

Wintertime brings with it longer nights, but also amazing things like mulled wine and (finally) being able to wear your winter wardrobe. Now, to add to the wonderful seasonal experience, The Winery is hosting a winter bohemian glamping experience.

From now until 31 August 2019, you can visit The Winery in Surry Hills for a popup outdoor glamping experience. There are fondue picnics and bottomless glamping packages to explore and indulge in.

The Plus Ones were invited to check out the experience before the official launch. Just off Crown Street, you always know you’re near The Winery when you see the twinkle of fairy lights amongst the trees — it’s magical. Even more so is how the team have gone all out with the decor for the popup. There’s a handmade macramé arbor to walk under, with tons of pampas grass (all the rage on Instagram) and  oversized dreamcatchers. It’s as if Coachella suddenly sprang up in the middle of Surry Hills in the winter.

Your Instagram feed will feel so happy as you give it multiple shots from the swingset, or inside the teepee, sitting on gorgeous throw pillows. You can book the teepee privately for up to 12 guests.

We got a preview of the entire menu, which involves tons of ahhhhhmazing cheese, alongside Jacob’s Creek wines. There’s honey-roasted camembert with fig jam, French onion and gruyere cheese on toasted sourdough, and olive tapenade and vegan almond ricotta on crisp toast.

Do you know about raclette? This Swiss tradition involves putting cheese onto a paddle and heating it to melting point, then pouring it over delicious bread or nibbles. At The Winery, the raclette station features raw baby vegetables, crudité skewers, fondue dip, sliced bresaola, lonza and roasted mushrooms. It’s only $20pp (minimum of two people to order) — and you can complement it with Jacob’s Creek full wine offerings. Or get the dishes separately, from $12. I also highly recommend the Double Barrel mulled wine – delicious on a cold winter’s night!

The Winery is also offering glamping cheese and wine packages from Thursday-Sunday, with two options to choose from:

  • Happy Glamper: Diners can revel on the raclette station, French onion grilled cheese and finish with a hot chocolate cannoli, while sipping Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Premium wines, priced at $59pp.
  • Bottomless Glamper: For the ultimate indulgence, guests can treat themselves to Riesling and honey roasted camembert, raclette station and tiramisu Baked Alaska. This is paired with Jacob’s Creek Bottomless Mulled Wine or Sangria in red, white or rose, priced at $79pp.
  • Seating times for The Winery Glamping Packages are:
    Thursday & Friday: 5-7pm / 7:30 – 9:30pm
    Saturday & Sunday: 12-2pm / 2:30 – 4:30pm / 5-7pm / 7:30-9.30pm

I’ve had raclette in the French Alps in a tiny mountain hut, and in Zurich for New Year’s Eve. Eating it in a teepee, under the twinkling lights of The Winery in the middle of Surry Hills, ranks with my European experiences. It’s a magical moment to indulge in this season.

Make sure to book into The Winery for a wintertime experience you won’t forget.
