International Women’s Day at The Quartier – with Veuve Clicquot

What says an “An Afternoon with the ladies”, better than a glass or three of champagne? To celebrate International Women’s Day, The Plus Ones enjoyed a Veuve Clicquot champagne Masterclass and High Tea, at stunning Sydney cbd event space The Quartier.

If you’ve yet to go there, you’re missing out on luxe green velvet lounges, triple tiered (and highly instagrammable) High Tea treats, with attentive French hospitality to boot.

As we settled in to our seats, Champagne expert Linda McWilliam gave a fun and informative commentary on the background of Veuve Clicquot’s prestigious heritage, leading to the brand’s modern identity.

We learnt a thing or two about how the beautiful brand came to be – owing greatly to Madame Clicquot, the “Dame of Champagne”, who was paving the way for girl power as early as the 1800’s. In an era when women were excluded from the business world, she dared to assume the head of the company. As the creator of  the very first blend of Rosé Champagne in history, Madame Clicquot’s character was nothing short of audacious, intelligent, and inspiring.

Linda when on to demonstrate how to (safely) open a champagne bottle, which as it turns out, is a risky business. Guests learnt other important facts, including that apparently there’s seven times more calories in a Gin and Tonic, than in one glass of champagne. There’s also a far higher amount of sugar in sparkling varieties like Prosecco – who knew?

Guests sampled everything from the Veuve Clicquot Collection – from the Vintage 2008 to the Veuve Clicquot Rosé Champagne. We also enjoyed impeccably dainty petit fours and delectable pastries from the new French bistro. Home & Away’s Sarah Robert’s, former Neighbours actress and 2018 Woman of the Year was there, as well as Saskia Hampele and model Grace Ireland.

The Quartier Bistro & Bar offers a desirable event space for High Teas and Hens Parties, and even corporate functions. So next time you’re feeling thirsty with the girls, reach for none other than Madame Clicquot’s Veuve Champagne. Do it for the ladies.
