Head down to the Four Seasons this summer for some gin enjoyment. Grain and Archie Rose Distillery have collaborated to make a signature gin, which they are showcasing in the Summer of Gin (12 January – 2 March).
Not one to pass up an opportunity to drink gin, my plus one and I went to check it out on the opening night. On arrival, we were greeted with beautiful cocktails – Taylor’s Fizz, and Rocket Man, made with dry gins from another great Sydney distillery, Manly Spirits. With a cocktail in hand we piled up our plates with antipasto, and got a seat with a breeze by the open windows.
If you hadn’t heard, Grain is the Four Seasons’ bar. It has all the luxury that comes with being connected to a high end hotel, and retains a serious passion for showcasing local and craft beers and spirits. That they manage to pull both of those off without an air of pretension is largely down to their charismatic bar manager.
On the evening in question, Roderick greeted each guest like an old friend, and happily shared anecdotes about how his favourite cocktails came to be. Roderick is passionate about his spirits, and it shows. His enthusiasm alone soon had my plus one (a staunch tequila guy) sipping on a gin martini.
The unveiling of the unique gin collaboration between Grain and Archie Rose was unveiled, and more gin cocktails were introduced to the mix. If this is a sign of things to come, then it looks like the Summer of Gin will be a good one. Grain are offering everything from Australian gin tasting, to specially created gin cocktails, and gin design workshops.
And if gin is your thing and you want more, you should head down to the Archie Rose Distillery in Rosebery. There, you can watch and learn about the distilling process, and savour a drink at their custom-made distillery and bar — or even create your own Tailored Spirits with the help of their expert distillers.
Make sure you get down to it before summer is up. You won’t be disappointed.

The Summer of Gin runs until 2 March 2018 at Grain Bar (199 George St, Sydney). Visit www.grainbar.com.au for more.
