Stanton and Co.: Marrying of Australian and Japanese Cuisine, Rosebery

Stanton and Co is the latest dining destination from prominent restaurateurs Parlour Group that has opened in Rosebery’s The Cannery. The Plus Ones were lucky enough to be invited to sample their wares and see if lives up to expectations.

We were greeted with a glass of Italian Prosecco which we enjoyed on the gorgeous balcony overlooking the residential neighbourhood. It was a warm evening with a bit of a breeze, that kept whipping my hair into my partner’s face! But with the conversation and Prosecco flowing, we left all our worries behind and looked forward to a tasty evening.Stanton and Co

Once all the guests had arrived, we were brought into the main restaurant. It has a large open floor plan that retains its cosiness with their friendly staff and thoughtful interiors. Owner Brody Petersen and General Manager Bay Kilpatrick, worked with the renowned Alexander&Co to design the space.

Inspiration was drawn from the site’s rich heritage and New York’s Meatpacking District. You can recognise that aim in the addition of old Marouba Station signs, the open kitchen layout, and the large vintage-inspired mirror behind the expansive bar. Which itself houses some stellar scotch, gins, and a range of fantastic wines from all over the world.

We were served a delicious range of dishes which included a mix of Australian classics with clear Japanese influences. Among the ten dishes were the table-pleasing smokey soy truffle oysters; mouth-watering grilled spatchcock, with Yuzu koshu vinegar and BBQ leek; innovative cheese onion gyoza with mustard vinegar; and Yuzu passion-fruit pavlova.

Each dish was paired with fantastic wines including Mataro Krinklewood “Francesca Rose” (Hunter Valley NSW 2017), Riesling David Franz “Edge” Eden Valley (South Australia 2016), Chardonnay Skigh “Coda” (Margaret River WA 2017), and as a special treat “Lousia” Sticky Gewurztraminer (Spring Vale 2017).

Not a bad way to spend a Thursday evening in Rosebery. The space is ideal for a night out with friends or an intimate evening with someone special. Stanton and Co’s menu is versatile and bursting with flavour. The skill of the chef — award-winning Executive Chef Regan Porteous — and his team are apparent in the presentation and easy marrying of Australian and Japanese influences. Be sure to put Stanton and Co. on your “Need to Try” restaurant list. We reckon it’s going to be a hit!
