The American Express OpenAir Cinemas at Sydney University’s Cadigal Green is a fitting experience this summer. With an array of movies, from cult classics to this year’s favourites, the experience of lounging under the stars simply cannot be matched with ‘old-skool’ cinema.
I was very surprised by the luxury of what was on offer. An exquisite food menu by Salt Meats Cheese, which ranges from pizzas, pasta, to even a cheese plate. The pizza tasted divine, made fresh in an oven on-site. The staff need a shoutout for their friendliness. Your favourite munchies are perfect to pair with your desired wine or whatever drink you desire at the bar. You could also buy special bundles and snack packs.
Once we were settled in, cosied up on our loungers and bellies full, it was time for the actual movie. Considering that the weather is unpredictable in Sydney, it’s the only drawback you can think of going to an outside cinema. We saw Girls Trip, which was hilariously good. I almost fell off my lounger when I was laughing because it was deflated too much — lucky you can ask a friendly crew member to inflate it for you.
American Express Openair Cinemas Sydney is the perfect opportunity to catch up with that friend you haven’t seen in a while, or go out with your friends and do that picnic and/or movie night you always wanted to do all in one go, or bring your puppy for a walk and a screening. Cadigal Green is a suitable location for this event — the proximity to Newtown and the CBD is a convenience. Being an AMEX member or a VIP almost feels like glamping, as you would be taken care of, escorted to your loungers and given free popcorn. As a first timer going to these things, you can’t help but feel a bit fancy.
