Solerno, the world’s first blood orange liqueur, celebrates the blood orange season with ‘Celebrazione dell’Arancia Rossa’ at Capriccio Osteria in the heart of Sydney’s Italian neighbourhood, Leichhardt. From 18 October to 18 November, patrons can try five specialised cocktails — each of which showcases Solerno and Redbelly Citrus blood oranges.
Dubbed ‘Celebrazione dell’Arancia Rossa’, the signature cocktails on offer include the Solerno Serata (a combination of ruby red grapefruit juice, bitters and soda), The Sicilian 75 (a mix of freshly-squeezed lemon and blood orange juice topped with Prosecco), and the Solernoni (a Solerno twist on the Italian classic Negroni).
To kick things off, Capriccio Osteria hosted at dinner for select media with a special preview of the cocktails and the food. Held upstairs in the cute and vibrant restaurant, long tables were bedecked with festoons of baby’s breath and the famous blood oranges, which are hitting their stride in their limited yearly growing season.
With a cocktail on arrival, and four more to come, we were in for a magnificent evening.
Head Chef Nicole Bampton — later featuring on a panel discussion about the evening — explained that she incorporated blood orange and citrus into many of the dishes served. By far the standout dish for many of us was the blood orange tagliolini with scallop and bottarga. Bampton had the genius idea to include citrus in the pasta itself. There’s nothing else like it.
Solerno is the world’s first blood orange liqueur, and each of the cocktails were better than the last. The liqueur itself is just the right amount of sweetness and citrus punch. You can tell it’s made with love. I love the commitment to utilising fresh Australian-grown citrus to accompany the drinks, too.
An evening trying new cocktails, paired with delicious food? That’s what I call a winning combination. Make sure you hit this popup before it’s gone.
