It’s that time of year when avid art enthusiasts and curators come together to discuss the prestigious award of the Archibald prize. Sofitel Sydney Wentworth however, has taken this exhibition to the next level with a perfectly paired high tea to match such an established event.
The interior is chic and on par especially for sipping on their many ranges of tea. I’d highly recommend the ‘Darjeeling rose scented’. A photo of Rhys Nicholson is the main theme of the table, and with good reason. The colours and sharpness in this image are incredible. It’s easy to see why it was a finalist in the Archibald Prize last year.
I’ve tried many high teas in my life, trust me – I’m a lover of all things sweet. This delightful high tea however, set the bar exceptionally high. When can you paint your macarons with mango and berry coulis? Or eat shortbread cookies from a matchbox? It was most definitely a superb twist on a British classic.
Food is aplenty and the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. The mushroom quiches and salmon brioche are moreish, chocolate ganache tarts melt in your mouth and the raspberry éclairs perfectly pair with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne. I also loved the hand-painted chocolate paintbrushes that were a fitting and delicious decoration.
The glassware is impeccable, ranging from crystal glasses to tall champagne flutes. Napkins are folded in the shape of a tuxedo with of course a black bow tie to match. It’s inevitable to feel ever so luxurious in such a place.
Sofitel Sydney definitely put on a high tea that’s a work of art.
