Twinings celebrates their new Morning Tea blend with a boat party

Twinings Tea has outdone themselves: their new Morning Tea blend features artwork from a prominent Australian woman, with 10 cents from each box going to charity. Now, that’s a reason to celebrate! And celebrate they did as they unveiled the winning design in their national packaging design + charity competition.

The Twinings’ Design Challenge saw 20 Australian women asked to design a box and nominate a charity. With thousands of votes cast, the four finalists were narrowed down to Carrie Bickmore, Samantha Harris, Emma Freedman and Nicole Kidman. Who would be the lucky winner? Partygoers were about to find out.

We boarded Twinings’ boat for the evening, Starship Sydney, at King’s Wharf. Mingling with the likes of model Lauren Vickers, My Kitchen Rules winner Steve Flood, and finalists Carrie Bickmore and Samantha Harris, guests were served endless glasses of wine and plenty of delish canapes as the boat sailed off.

Cruising around the harbour, we were treated to speeches by a Twinings descendent — yes, the man is from the same family who’s been serving up tea for 300 years. Brand Director Audrey Green pointed out that Thomas Twining was the first person to open a teahouse where women were allowed to go. How fitting, then, that the Twinings Morning Tea blend involves so many fantastic females.

As we neared Cockatoo Island, guests rushed to view the special surprise Twinings had in store. The designs were projected onto the island’s cliffs, with the winning design suddenly revealed. And whose design won? Why, Carrie Bickmore’s! Here ballet dancer is linked with her charity Carrie’s Beanies 4 Cancer. In a heartfelt speech, we learned that the survival rate for brain cancer is the same as it was 30 years ago. More research — and funding  — is needed.

Thankfully, Twinings is here to help with this great cause. 10 cents from each box sold goes to the charity. Best of all, the boxes will be on shelves throughout Australia.

As we watched Sydney’s skyline floated past, it was time to reflect on a great party for a great cause. And to raise a cup of piping hot Twining’s Morning Tea in celebration!
