As the cast of Shake & Stir Theatre Co move effortlessly on queue into the next scene, it’s more than apparent that we are once again witnessing Emily Bronte’s gothic masterpiece unfold.
True to form, this season’s production of Wuthering Height’s breathes a dark madness only found within the classic English literature of the Victorian Era.
This modern depiction invites audiences to witness the deadly side of love and tragedy in all its glory, and continues to challenge viewers with its stark depiction of mental and physical illness.
We follow the tale of young Heathcliffe, a mysterious character rescued from the streets and taken to the Wuthering Heights manor. Of its residents, Cathy Earnshaw, with whom Heathcliffe soon develops a passionate bond. And her brother, Hindley, with whom a toxic relationship of another kind develops.
Portrayed effortlessly, this 200 year old tale will leave you breathless, longing for the unrequited love so many of today’s audience continue to seek, but seldom find.
