New Zealand Craft Beer Symposium 2016

The New Zealand Craft Beer Symposium is underway across Australia. Many of New Zealand’s finest craft beer brewers have taken over the taps of local bars in celebration of Waitangi Day weekend, and The Plus Ones were fortunate enough to attend the unveiling of a new collaborative concoction labelled the ‘Underarm Apology’ this past Wednesday.

The ‘Underarm Apology’ is a joint collaboration with kiwi crafters Tuatara and The Catfish itself. Defined as a new world IPA, with a combination of both New Zealand and Australian hops, it is a very smooth and deliciously hoppy beverage that lives up to its bold and relevant title. It’s sure to please any IPA connoisseur. Other beers on tap included the tamarillo sour ‘Tomtit’ by ParrotDog, 8 Wired’s Black IPA, and Garage Project’s spicy La Calavera Catrina that were also getting favourable reactions and reviews.

The Catfish lived up to its reputation as a friendly and very accommodating venue, with free food rounds and helpful staff. It’s also the place to be in Melbourne to go into the draw to win a trip to Beervana in Wellington, an event that I can testify is a craft beer lover’s dream.

The Symposium is not on for very long, so check out their page for events and venues near you.
