Supanova 2015

Major inner geek alert! I was dancing on rainbows today at Supanova (and no, I did not take any hallucinogens). People in costumes were all over the place and every time I turned a corner I found someone who had put even more effort into their costume than the last one! Now don’t get worried, not everyone is dressed as his or hers favourite character, but if you are looking for an excuse to dress up, look no further, this is your magical place!

Besides all the amazing dressed up superhero’s and my little pony’s spreading love and busting a groove, Supanova also offers you the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of your favourite celebrities. To name a few; Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) and Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs) from Harry Potter, Mick Taylor (John Jarrat) from Wolf Creek, Liam Mcintyre from Spartacus, Nathan Fillion from Castle and for the comic fans amongst us the voices of Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright), Pokemons Ash Ketchum (Veronica Taylor) and many, many more including the creative teams behind successful series.

Supanova is a beautiful maze of costumes and matching gear, from unicorn headbands to impressive weaponry and magic potions to poke balls. There are very skilled and talented artists who draw the most beautiful pictures, whether realistic or fantasy and many creative people who make special edition bags, bowties, pocket watches and costume(part)s. From Game of Thrones to Lord of the Rings, from Futurama to Ren & Stimpy, from Zelda to Skyrim and from Batman to Wonderwoman.

There is a cosplay championship, loads of photo oppurtunitues, you can attend seminars and masterclasses, and there is a LAN party set up.

And if you are overly excited after a day like this, you might want to think about joining a fanclub, cosplay group or even sign up for an info session on game design or a puzzle hunt.

Going to Supanova is definitely a high, you can be yourself and everyone is open minded, friendly, happy and helpful.  You can get free hugs, do a dance or have a heated discussion about your favourite show or series and nobody will judge. I know I left with a big smile on my face, a happy heart and a flyer to join the Star Wars Rebel Legion.
