Sugar Mountain Festival 2017: explore, interact, dance

Sugar Mountain, the annual fusion of art and music, has grown into one of Melbourne’s premier festivals. We were chuffed to be checking out Sugar Mountain this year and it didn’t disappoint.

The layout of the VCA complex makes Sugar Mountain the perfect festival for exploration. Moving from stage to stage, you feel like you’re discovering a mini wonderland.

There were plenty of surprises this year with the Sugar Mountain app allowing you to interact with art pieces across the festival site. Other surprises included receiving a free pair of Wrangler jeans with the jeans-for-jeans swap! The catch was that you had to leave your jeans behind, which were then donated to a worthy cause.

The main event though were the several amazing stages: Dodds St, Movement, The Boiler Room, special performances in The Theatre and a nice dark room at Studio 45, presented by Absolut Nights.

Explore, interact, dance — repeat. This was our mantra for the day.

After a heady day of exploration we perched ourselves in the middle of the Boiler Room stage and absorbed the vibes. Sugar Mountain 2017 didn’t disappoint in any way. We already can’t wait for next year!
