Melbourne loves to get saucy after dark, but VIVA’s new production Society takes things somewhere else entirely. Part immersive show, part dinner experience, part late-night fantasy, this is the kind of night where you walk in off the street and suddenly forget what time it is.
Guests filtered through the front bar with cocktails in hand before moving into the showroom for the main event. It felt social from the beginning, like everyone knew they were about to be part of something a little chaotic and glamorous.
The team at VIVA deserve credit for how smoothly the night runs. We were greeted warmly on arrival and the service stayed attentive throughout the evening without ever feeling overbearing. Staff floated through the room keeping drinks topped up, courses moving, and the atmosphere relaxed. It made the whole experience feel polished without losing the energy of a proper night out.
And then there’s the show itself.

Society leans fully into spectacle. Big performances, dramatic staging, dancing, live vocals, and performers who know exactly how to work a room. The cast move between tables, stages, and the crowd with confidence, turning the entire venue into part of the performance. One minute you’re sipping a cocktail, the next someone’s hanging upside down above your table while the room erupts around you.
The energy builds steadily across the night. It never feels like you’re simply sitting and watching. The audience becomes part of the rhythm of the evening, whether that’s cheering, dancing, laughing, or just trying to take everything in at once.

Food and drinks are also a major part of the experience rather than an afterthought. Cocktails flowed through the night alongside an omakase-style menu that matched the upscale but playful atmosphere VIVA is clearly aiming for.
What makes Society work is that it commits fully to the concept. It’s immersive, theatrical, slightly outrageous at times, and very Melbourne in the best way possible.
If you’re looking for a standard dinner and show, this isn’t it. But if you want a night that feels bigger, louder, and a little unexpected, VIVA’s Society delivers exactly that.
