Over a few nights this week, guests will enjoy award-winning films, elevated takes on traditional movie snacks, in-seat service from a personal whisky butler and of course the opportunity to be guided through some exceptional single malts.
As a self-confessed film & whisky snob, experiences don’t get much better than this!
Dreamed up by the team at Glendronach, the Most Luxurious Cinema experience at Palace Cinema Como takes movies to a whole new sensory level.
For those in the know, Glendronach Distillery is nestled in the Valley of Forgue in the majestic Scottish Highlands, and has been dedicated to crafting fine Single Malts since 1826.
The choice of showing The Great Gatsby during our session, paired with The Glendronach 12-Year-Old, was a stroke of curatorial genius. After all, the film is also 12 years old this year!
Glendronach 12-Year with its rich notes of chocolate praline and sun-dried raisins notes, perfectly echoed the sheer, glittering decadence and nostalgia of Gatsby’s extravagant world. Sipping that deep amber dram while watching Baz Luhrmann’s lavish film made the experience feel rich and layered, like tasting Fitzgerald’s iconic prose with every sip.
The evening was anchored by a guided tasting. The brand representative wasn’t just reciting notes; he was visibly passionate and incredibly knowledgeable, talking us through the sherry cask influence and the distillery’s history with genuine enthusiasm. It turned the act of drinking single malt into a rich, educational journey that was approachable for whisky nerds like myself, and those who are new to the delicious dram.
But the night’s most bizarre and brilliant surprise was the food pairing. You hear “caviar and popcorn,” and you mentally roll your eyes. Yet, the warm, salty crunch of the popcorn blended with the briny pop of the Yarra Valley Caviar was shockingly superb. It cut through the richness of the whisky beautifully and was a truly inventive and elevated cinema snack that blew away all expectations. The snack box and mid-film cocktail were absolutely delicious too.
The evening culminates with a rare and refined The Glendronach 30-year dram from a bottle that’s worth over $2000. This one is for the whisky lovers, and we were expertly guided through the experience of enjoying this rare drop.
Glendronach’s Luxury Cinema experience was a masterful blend of atmosphere, history, and hedonism. They crafted a sensory experience that made you feel like you were part of the golden age of luxury. It was a sophisticated, delicious, and utterly unforgettable way to spend an evening.
This isn’t just Gold Class. This is luxury cinema, served neat.
