Five French Wines to Sip This Autumn: A Taste of Tastin’ France 2025

Need more French wine in your life? (Is that even a real question?) We’ve got you covered.

Last week, we sipped our way through Tastin’ France 2025—a French wine trade tasting hosted by Business France that brought 12 winemakers from across the motherland to Melbourne. From Champagne to Burgundy and lesser-known varietals like Grenache Blanc and Mourvèdre, it was a whirlwind tour of France’s finest.

While not every bottle is on Aussie shelves just yet (we’re still daydreaming about the Champagne lineup), here are five fabulous French wines you can get your hands on—perfect for savouring those final warm summer days and easing into the autumn chill.

Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé

A celebrity-backed stunner, this Provence rosé is made on the Miraval estate—yes, the same one with a recording studio used by Pink Floyd, The Cranberries, and ACDC. It’s crisp, pale pink, and bursting with wild strawberries, rose petals, and a citrusy finish.

Cellier des Princes Tradition Côtes du Rhône Villages

This ruby red blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre delivers aromas of blueberries, black currants, and strawberries with spicy overtones. On the palate, it’s smooth with a supple structure. Not too light and not too heavy – ideal for those crisp autumn night.

Château Maine Gazin Prestige 2019

A Bordeaux blend showcasing a deep ruby colour. The nose is expressive with notes of cherry, blueberries, and undergrowth, supported by subtle hints of brioche and spices. The palate is fresh and balanced with a rich and creamy attack.

H&B Côtes de Provence Rosé

This delightful pale pink rosé brings expressive floral notes with hints of fennel and anise. It’s a refreshing, crisp and floral wine, embodying everything that we love about rosés from Provence. Pairs perfectly with a lazy Sunday afternoon on the balcony soaking up the final rays of summer sun.

Clos de los Siete 2020 (Argentina)

Our wildcard pick of the bunch. While not French, this Argentine blend was a standout at the tasting. Made by renowned French winemaker Michel Rolland, it combines Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Expect aromas of black fruit and plums with delicate floral notes, leading to a powerful palate with elegant, silky tannins.

Whether you’re basking in the last rays of summer or cozying up as autumn sets in, these wines offer a taste of France (and a touch of Argentina) to suit any occasion. Santé!
