Salsa – The Show Launch at Jono’s Piano Bar

Last week The Plus Ones were invited along to the launch of Salsa – The Show,  hosted at Prahran hot-spot, Jono’s Piano Bar. When ever we are lucky enough to be invited along to an event by the fabulous Helen Reizer of HRPR (our Queen of Melbourne), we know we are in for a treat and this was something very special.

On Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September, Salsa – The Show will take to the stage at The Palms. For the launch we were transported into the seductive salsa bars of Cali, Colombia, for a taste of what’s in store.

The Show came together as a wonderful happenstance of the pandemic. Some of the world’s best salsa dancers, caught-up in border closures, were brought together by the creative mastermind of Laura Anderson. Salsa – The Show is celebration of the movement, the music and the culture that will be sure set fire to your soul, and the soles of your feet!

There is something magical so magical about salsa which the launch captured perfectly. It takes over your body, and no matter your relationship to the dancefloor, your hips will start to move, and just like that, you surrender to the sound.

On the night were treated to the enchanting live vocals of the show’s music producer, Stefania Serna, accompanied by the cast of dancers, who turned-up the heat to fever pitch.

Look, I do admit I first invited my Colombian friend along with the ulterior motive of being my sacrificial lamb, in case of any audience participation requests of course, but alas, the music (and wine) took over, and I jumped onto the dance floor at the first opportunity of ‘Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It’.

Jono’s was the perfect speakeasy escape for the launch, the eclectic interiors, complete with a vintage salon piano (a gift from his mother when we was three) and his attentive bar team together make it one venue you must add to your next night out southside. Jono’s Piano Bar is located at 157 Greville St, Prahran.

Salsa – The Show will debut at The Palms Crown Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 September only, so don’t miss the opportunity to experience the history of Salsa through dance and music.
