Move over boring brunches! Combining some of our favourite things in life (brunch, booze and drag), The Smith’s weekly Drag Brunch is a glittery antidote to boring breakfasts.
My plus one and I arrived at a very non-brunch time of 3PM to check out this event for ourselves. Entering The Smith in Prahran, we were blown away at how pretty their glasshouse room is. Natural light floods the flower filled room, and everyone attending had dressed for the occasion – there was energy in the air for what was to come.
The two-hour brunch package includes a tasty brunch dish (more on that later), and bottomless spritzes (hello). On top of that you’ll be entertained by the Jaw Breaker DJs, Kali Fornikate and Sabrina Babyslut. We were also lucky enough to have Fembot XYZ also making a special guest appearance for our session. Over the two hour session, these Queens danced, strutted and flipped around the room for our entertainment. Special shout out to Sabrina for literally hanging off the roof to pull some moves. The DJ tunes were all vibe, no filler and by the end of the show we could see quite a few groups dancing around in their seats.
When we say bottomless spritz menu, we mean it. The ‘Sips’ includes bottomles G-A-Yperol Sprits (Aperol, bubbles & blood orange), the B!tches Love Cranberry (vodka, bubbles, lemon & cranberry), Gin is My Sin (a personal favorite – gin, lemon & apple) or the Mrs Del Rio (Martini Bianco, bubbles, rosemary & lime). Basic beers & wines can be ordered too, though who wants that!
It wouldn’t be brunch (even if it’s the afternoon) without a few elevated classics. On the menu is Smashed Avo with Meredith Goats Cheese (IYKYK), a very fancy breakfast salad with poached eggs & pomegranate, a delicious lobster & prawn roll in a milk bum with four pillars bloody shiraz gin caviar (highly reccommended) and a delicious berry hotcake with vanilla mascarpone, puffed rice and blueberries. You have Dietary restrictions? No worries, the team were careful to sort something out and even our vegan & gluten free friends were well cared for.
Drag Brunch at The Smith books up far in advance, so be sure to save your space and book online. Your only downside to booking is that every brunch after this will be a snooze fest.
