World Whisky Day: Where & What to Drink

With World Whisky Day upon us, there is no better time to add a new single malt to your collection, or find a new favourite drop at some of the amazing bars around Melbourne. Smooth, smoky, oaky, peaty; our tastebuds are tingling just thinking about all the great tipples we’ll try this Saturday 15th May! Read on for some of the best specialty bars to visit across Melbourne this weekend, or what to do if you’re staying safe and snug in your own home.

The ElysianWhisky

The Elysian is well known to the Whiskey lovers of Fitzroy, and to celebrate World Whiskey Day they will be throwing open their doors and welcoming punters in to try a few drops guided by their expert bartenders. With over 350 bottles currently available, and more being added all the time, we’d recommend chatting to the bartenders to find a tipple that works for your wallet & pallet. As a bonus, the cozy vibe here will be even better with some excellent jazz and old classics on the sound system.

Whisky Den
bottles of whiskey
Established in 2016, Whisky Den was modeled after a hybrid of the tiny ‘yokocho’ alley bars of Japan and the Hutong bars of Beijing. The passionate bartenders love to chat and share their knowledge about everything from the distillation process to the effects of climate on maturation, and importantly they are always happy to recommend a dram tailored to your taste and budget. They currently boast around 370 bottles, so there’s something for everyone.

It goes without saying that not everyone is ready to venture onto the cold, and often wet, streets of Melbourne after ~last year~. So with that in mind, here are some delicious things to attend (and drink) from the comfort of your nice warm home. Westward Whiskey have a lot to celebrate this World Whiskey Day. Their brand new Pinot Noir Cask has just launched in Australia this week and the Single Malt Pinot Noir Cask also just won Double Gold at the 2021 San Francisco Spirits Awards! Try their elevated American single malts at home with a self-guided tasting experience (and cocktail making guide) on their Instagram. If you’re looking for something made a little closer to home, Starward has just released their very limited Ginger Beer Cask which you can pickup or try from their Port Melbourne HQ.

Whatever your drop of choice is this weekend, we hope you love World Whiskey Day as much as we do.
