Melbourne’s amazing hospitality scene has been struggling during COVID lockdown, so we’re incredibly happy to see the great innovation and pivots from some of our favourite businesses! We also really, really miss going to live events but have been excited to see what events have been able to pivot to online. With that in mind, here are three fantastic events you can enjoy from the safety and comfort of your own home that would be all the more enjoyable with some fresh “heat at home” Tremila pizza & pasta in hand.
First load up on Pizza
The young Melbourne chefs from Tremila have pivoted their business model during the lockdown so Melbournians can still enjoy mouth-watering hand-stretched pizzas and fresh pasta at home! After all, what brings more comfort and happiness than an authentically Italian, hot, cheesy pizza straight from the oven or a hot bowl of fresh pasta?!
Prior to lockdown restrictions, Tremila only supplied its range of gourmet pizzas to commercial venues around Melbourne. When that service came to a grinding halt in the middle of March 2020, the owners began to deliver straight to homes across Melbourne. Using only ‘00’ flour from Naples along with a complicated 48-hour fermentation process, the bases are fluffy artisan-style crusts, just like you would get in Italy. Perfect to munch on while you stream some amazing live events this weekend.
Yarra Valley Spring Garden Party
Created by Yarra Valley Tourism with the region in mind, the virtual weekend features much-loved Yarra Valley producers affected by the pandemic. Usually springtime in the Yarra Valley is all about festivals and amazing spring blooms — events like the iconic Tesselaar Tulip Festival and the Blossom Festival at CherryHill Orchards just to name a few. Enter COVID and springtime in the Yarra Valley is looking a little different this season.
In a bid to champion the region’s food, wine, people, music and beautiful gardens, this event brings the Yarra Valley to homes all over Australia through a schedule of events unique to the region. All activities will stream online via visityarravalley.com.au or from the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Facebook page.
Virtual event highlights include:
- Yoga in the award-winning Alowyn Gardens
- Walk through Country at Healesville Sanctuary with Elder Murrindindi
- Cooking class with food writer Julia Busuttil Nishimura x Lisa Giffard of Yarra Valley Pasta
- Wander through the blossom laden avenues of CherryHill Orchards
- Wine tasting with content creator Jessica Nguyen (known for her recipes and weekly appearances on podcast, Shameless)
- Live recital in the iconic tulip fields of Tesselaar by the Yarra Valley Opera Festival

Window Swap
While not technically an event, Window Swap has been a lifesaver for many isolated people around the world who are sick to death of seeing the same thing from their own window each day. The concept is simple – open the website and experience a stream of video looking out from a strangers window around the world. On our journeys we have seen lush green gardens and sunny city scapes. If you’re lucky, you might even see a window in Italy while you munch on some pizza at home. Bellissimo!
A Night In With Andy Van
It was possibly one of the best years for ‘House Music’ – the Year 2000! From Daft Punk to Fatboy Slim, to Basement Jaxx. Revisit some of the biggest Club Classics you’ll ever hear on Saturday 3rd October with Andy Van, as he takes a trip down clubbing memory lane in a livestream! Andy Van (aka one half of Madison Avenue & Super Disco Club) has spent years crafting his art of music, producing and performing globally, establishing him as one of Australia’s most successful & popular DJ’s and music producers.
