Darkfield Radio - The Plus Ones

Date night is hard when you’ve re-entered a seemingly endless lockdown. In the past, you had options: art shows, museums, creepy haunted houses. Now there’s Netflix, takeaway, and visits to Costco. Darkfield Radio offers a great solution for those needing a new date idea: a broadcast challenging your understandings of familiarity.

We chose to tune in at 8pm. Equipped with candles, a glass of water and squeaky kitchen chairs, we were ready to try something new. From the get-go, I was impressed. The Darkfield Radio app was easy to set up and understand. Its design was sleek and the count-down tracking the time to the event was ominous. As we got ready, it truly felt like any other date night: do you have everything? Will you be cold in that? Quick, go to the bathroom while you can!

Once the event began, however, it was unlike any other date night we’d had. The woman’s voice was chilly and immersive. The audio played was intense and powerful. Think buzzing flies, glitching radios and footsteps. I was convinced that there were other people in the room with us. Their movements and changes in closeness gave me goosebumps – the perfect amount of creepy: unsettling without forcing me to grab my partner’s hand and open my eyes.

As their first presentation, Darkfield Radio did an amazing job with DOUBLE. The idea that my loved one had been replaced by a replica was well-engineered and engaging, and the entire process, from start to finish, was easy to navigate and fun.

If you’re looking for a thrill to share with a loved one, or even to experience on your own, head over to Darkfield’s website and let their immersive audio experience give you a break from your day-to-day life.
