Classic Gin Cocktail Classes at Brogan’s Way Distillery

The art of mixology and making is something that comes naturally to the guys and girls over at Brogan’s Way. Not only has this Richmond distillery created their very own collection of gins, but a cocktail menu of unique tastes and twists for their bar too. And now they’re giving you the chance to try the latter for yourself with a fun-filled one hour Class Gin Cocktail Class. Here, their expert bartenders teach you the tricks of their trade where you’ll learn how to make (and then drink of course) two of their classic gin cocktails.

Just a hop and a skip from the busy Bridge Road, as soon as you walk into Brogan’s Way you’ll notice it’s wonderful distinct industrial character. Something you could only achieve from turning an old car garage into an urban distillery, really. Think exposed brick walls, mood lighting and copper pot stills gleaming in plain sight just beyond the bar.

The class is run in the main bar area at a large workshop-style table, with plenty of space for stirring and shaking. On it, neatly set out into individual work stations, is everything you need to create your cocktails.

Headed up by one of the knowledgeable bartenders, the class begins with a full rundown of the different bar equipment we’ll be using and more importantly how to use it all correctly. A welcome refresher for my dusty hospitality skills.

The class continues with a demonstration on how to make each cocktail, with some interesting anecdotes around the recipes and useful tips thrown in along the way. Then it’s our turn to give it a go making them ourselves!

If you’re wanting something to nibble alongside your creations this class has got you covered too. With a delicious charcuterie sharing board of cheese, cured meats, olives, bread and dips served between making cocktail one and two – breaking up the session rather nicely.

At the end, you’re invited to hang out in the bar and enjoy your second drink. If you want to make an evening of it, stay longer and try some of their other cocktail sensations. Or if you want to head home to put your new skills to the test, you can even buy your very own bottle of Brogan’s Way gin to take away. You’ll also receive a selection of little recipe cards at the end of the class to inspire your next cocktail party, which I thought was a nice additional touch.

Lasting 60 minutes, the class is the ideal length to learn the basics of cocktail making whilst having some fun along the way. So whether you want to gain an insight into the world of mixology, a unique start to an evening out with friends or a new idea for date night, head over to Brogan’s Way and shake your evening up with something a little different.
