Espresso 155 in Ascot Vale

Espresso 155 is a lovely cafe in Ascot Vale which has recently updated its menu. During our visit, we chose to sit outside as it was a beautiful day. The back outdoor area was gorgeous, with herbs and vegetables growing in the garden — a beautiful spot.

We ordered a Greek coffee to start, which was rich and delicious. My friend then ordered the omelette special with salad and I ordered the 155 eggs minus the eggs (I’m allergic). The hosts were so lovely and accommodating to my egg allergy; however, I would love to see more variety on the menu for those with food intolerances.

Our meals were worth the wait. My dish was huge: two large pieces of multigrain sourdough, topped with mushrooms, tomato, and avocado and feta — all so tasty and all perfectly cooked. My friend’s Mediterranean omelette was perfectly cooked, filled with olives, feta, tomatoes and a little spinach. Served with a side salad, the sweet dressing could have been toned down.

Service was attentive, and friendly. We were even offered sparkling water which is a nice change. We followed our meal with with a long black from the Lion Tamer blend from Reverence Coffee, which was yummy, and a lemongrass and ginger tea.

We were then given some treats to take home. The highlight was the yummy house-made vanilla slice, plus vegan banana bread. We were told that the café was working on making more of their baked goods on site – they already make muffins, both sweet and savoury, which looked really moreish.

In terms of atmosphere I could have sat there for hours. We highly recommend Espresso 155 if you are in the area!
