Fresh from his success with Working Dog Production shows Utopia and Have You Been Paying Attention, Dilruk Jayasinha graces the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with his show Bundle of Joy. With his hilarious jokes, and natural storytelling ability, Jayasinga takes his audience on a metaphorical flight through various incidents of his life and time in Australia.
We hear tales of how he was introduced to alcohol as a young, naïve international student who impressed people no end with his ability to skull pint after pint, his recent obsession with scented candles, his coffee snobbery (he only drinks single origin coffee, no blends!), and his close relationship with his family.
It is evident from the very start that Jayasinha a master of his art. His jokes are polished and finely crafted, and he has the audience laughing from start to finish. He isn’t, however, afraid to touch on sensitive topics like casual racism or mental health, but he handles it deftly in his own humourous manner without leaving the audience feeling too uncomfortable. It is clear that these issues are important to Jayasinha on a personal level, and by raising them in his shows, he hopes to take small steps to help resolve bigger problems in society.
Bundle of Joy is a must see show at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Dilruk Jayasinha has created a show that leaves you walking out both laughing and thoughtful as well has highly impressed at how beautifully his has shaped his show.
