Rogue District is located off Sydney Rd. on Albion Street, Brunswick, in a cute stone building that just oozes charm. The space was previously Jellystone and has largely remained the same (why change charm?). The menu, however, has undergone a fair revamp under the new management team.
On a delightfully sunny Melbourne morning, we were invited to a media brunch to showcase the new space. My plus one and I cast our eyes to the menu and immediately thought that we should engage in a bit of sharing. After dousing our palates with some of the warm drinks we went with the following dishes.
Reuben – wagyu pastrami is nestled in between two crusty on the outside soft in the middle slices of bread and covered in sauerkraut and gruyere cheese. This was my favourite dish of the morning and I wouldn’t hesitate coming back just to have it again.
Bulgogi Burger – an Asian inspired option the team has used Korean beef, slaw and kim chi to give people a very unique brunch option. It was a close second to the Reuben in my book but definitely something to go for if you’re after a twist on the typical brunch fare.
French Toast – this is one of those dishes that you can eat with your eyes on Instagram. It makes for a pretty picture and is perfect for the sweet toothed among you. Passionfruit curd, baked rhubarb, maple mascarpone and white chocolate crumble. You’ve been warned!
While there is no set theme to the menu, a Spanish/Asian flair seemed to permeate the menu. Portions are substantial and definitely good bang for buck. Looking around at what other people ordered and secretly wishing that I ordered the same wasn’t really an option. We were full!
Having said this, if I were to go again the Huevos Rancheros (chorizo, soft corn tortillas, avo, chipotle mayo) would have my vote.
