Starward exceeded our expectations with a special preview of their new bar and distillery. The award-winning whisky producers are now conveniently closer to the city in their new Port Melbourne home.
The interior is industrial chic with sturdy wood tables, copper stills of various sizes, and a beautiful bar stocked to the ceiling with Starward bottles.
The bartending team quenched our thirst and then some with a delicious variety of mixed drinks showcasing their spirts. With a temperature of 34 degrees, my first drink was a refreshing combination of their New World Projects gin and grapefruit soda.
My plus one opted for an Old Fashioned whisky cocktail served with a single crystal clear cube of Navy Strength Ice. The Old Fashioned is a classic for a reason and proved immensely popular with the hospitality crowd in attendance, as the bar staff quickly ran out of their pre-batched allotment. The fresh pressed apple juice and whisky pair well with the sunny summer weather, and the Boulevardier provided a twist on a Negroni by swapping the gin for whisky.
If our merry drinking session is anything to go by, the large warehouse space also boasts the potential to be an excellent event venue.
The distillery officially opens to the public on Saturday with free tours and a chance to meet the distillers. Let the professional team wrap you in a warm whisky embrace.
