With spring and summer nearly here I decided to try out the new Spring and Summer restaurant in St Kilda.
The restaurant is run by wok master Golf Peerasut Laovanich, who delights in Asian fusion, skilfully blending a great combination of Thai, Japanese, and Korean flavours. The setup of the restaurant certainly feels like spring and summer have already arrived; its light and refreshing ambience certainly gets you in the mood for some fresh and delicious food.
We started out the night with some luscious cocktails: Grandmother’s Vacation and Jungle Bird. These cocktails packed a punch but livened up the palate and set the tone for the rest of the evening.
The menu was:
- BBQ corn gochujang mayo, ashgrove smoked cheddar cheese
- Chicken wings, bull killer mayo
- Wok tossed edamame, wasa fury
- King prawn Pad Thai
- Laab gai & duck liver, lettuce cups
- Poached spinach, black sesame sauce
- Pandan coconut ice cream, sweet potato chips, yellow bean
The BBQ corn with the smoked cheddar cheese was divine, with both the saltiness of the cheese and sweetness of the corn complementing one another perfectly. My overall favourite was the King Prawn Pad Thai; the freshness of the dish provided a flavour explosion in the mouth.
Those who love chicken wings are in for a big treat, they are scrumptious and really crunchy – I would definitely recommend them. Of course the greens were also delicious: the wok tossed edamame and poached spinach were delectable and the freshness of the flavours stood out.
What I really loved about this restaurant was how clean and light the food was, not to mention the cheerful and airy ambience; every dish was just flowing with goodness and wholesome produce. Golf and sous chef Eryk Lawes have definitely succeeded in creating a space with a ‘good feeling all year round’. No doubt their 50-seat restaurant with evolving seasonal menu will be a hit with the foodies.
I would absolutely recommend trying Spring and Summer as soon as possible because once word gets around it’s going to be hard to get a booking.
