Life-Changing Food: The New Cookbook from Quirky Cooking

Quirky Cooking’s Jo Whitton and The Food Blog’s Fouad Kassab have combined forces to co-write a new cookbook. ‘Life Changing Food’ features gluten free, paleo friendly recipes with nourishing wholefoods at the centre.

Both Jo and Fouad have their own life-changing journeys that started with exploring gut-friendly diets and healthy eating as a way of life. My plus one and I went along to the ‘Life-Changing Food Talk and Cooking Demo’ where Jo and Fouad shared stories from their lives to demonstrate the impact that healthy eating can have.

During the evening, Jo introduced us to her son Isaac who experienced an onset of debilitating OCD and anxiety in his early teens. Isaac’s life changed when he went on the GAPS Diet that eventually led to ‘the fog being lifted’ and him coming off his medications successfully. Fouad spoke about how his change to wholefoods and paleo-friendly eating cleared up skin conditions and helped him shed 28 kilos in the space of a year.

All of the stories were shared as Jo and Fouad demonstrated some of the recipes from the upcoming cookbook. Armed with a Thermomix, these two make cooking six dishes in a row look like a breeze. We were shown how to create dairy free eggplant parmigiana, pomegranate hummus, herb crusted salmon, Moroccan cauliflower couscous salad, sweet potato mousse and nutty chocolate.

I was surprised at how tasty most of the evening’s creations were. The nutty chocolate was especially surprising, with a delicious velvety chocolate taste to it but absolutely no associated, sugary guilt. I’ll be adding the cauliflower couscous salad and herb crusted salmon into my meal rotations; they were super tasty. Delicious food with the power to heal, could it actually be?

All the recipes in Life Changing Food feature both conventional and Thermomix methods to whipping up some healthy deliciousness. Life Changing Food is due for release in March 2017 and will be a venture into self-publishing for Jo and Fouad. You can secure a copy of this cookbook hot off the first print run by pre-ordering now.
