Beyoncé yoga classes with Bey Dance

From the minds behind the Bey Dance workshops comes the creation of Bey Yoga. As the name suggests, Bey Yoga is about learning yoga to the powerful and inspirational music of the queen herself: the one, the only, Beyoncé.

This ‘come and try’ yoga session was located at the brand new Factory B premises in Brunswick. The venue is still a work in progress due to be completed very soon, but the high ceilings and cool factory-vibe gives this place plenty of potential.

Class started with Shavasana to the smooth tunes of Queen Bey in the background. This was followed by me attempting to do some sun salutations, downward dogging, curly catting, and cow posing, whilst incorporating power stances and resting bitch face into the routine. I will say that doing rounds of sun salutation to ‘Run the World (Girls)’ is definitely something that takes practice.

After completing the more modest yogic moves, we then hit full Bey level with a crash course in twerking. Yes, twerking. In the wise words of our instructor, the key to twerking lies in ‘becoming one with your butt’. Once fully unified with said butt, it’s just a matter of mastering the art of hitting your back with your butt repeatedly, to rhythm, whilst grinding towards the floor. Easy.

I now fully appreciate the art of twerking and understand that it really is ‘work, work, work, work, work’ for your core, glutes and thighs. Who knew?

Whether you’re located in Adelaide or Melbourne, Bey Dance has you covered. If you want to balance, twerk, booty-pop and grind your way to becoming Bey fit, head down to one of the many fun-filled dance, yoga or Bey-lates sessions for a great night out.
