Party with dinosaurs at Jurassic Nights in June

The dinosaurs are once again roaming the earth, and right here in Melbourne! That’s right all you purveyors of all things prehistoric, Jurassic World: The Exhibition is in town at Melbourne Museum and they have just launched something special for all the young at heart. On Friday nights in June you can experience your very own night in the museum adventure, complete with DJ and bars.

The Plus Ones were given the opportunity to head down on the opening Friday to get a peak at what the night is all about. It was super cold out so my plus one and I rugged up in our winter finest and braved the weather to experience the exhibition.

Jurassic WorldEntering into the museum we were presented with a cocktail bar and a larger mixed drinks bar, with a DJ spinning tunes in the middle. I was under the impression we could drink as we were walking around, but be warned: you can’t drink inside the exhibit. The lines were a bit long for the drinks and the DJ looked like she just played a 24-hour warehouse party the night before and hadn’t slept yet and was taking us on her come down. So far it had yet to get me into the proper vibe, so we decided to dive into Jurassic World.

The exhibition is formed in parts that you have to stick together as a group for, I’m guessing so the better parts don’t get over crowded. It was a little shorter then I was expecting, but the four or so moving dinosaurs were my favourite part. It’s a bit clinical how you move through — or maybe it’s just because I didn’t have a drink in my hand. If I was to give any advice for attending I would probably have at least one bottle of wine before heading in, which is my advice for approaching anything at life really. The event didn’t work as well for me as a Friday night kick starter/gallery socialiser the way the NGV does at their Friday nights. That said, I think it’s great to take the kids to, and the gallery staff are awesome.

Three rawr’s out of five for me, but definitely worth checking out for all those hardcore Jurassic Park fans!
