Stonnington Jazz: High Tea with Kate Hetty

The Stonnington Jazz Festival‘s array of events makes it hard to narrow down a favourite or two. When I saw Kate Hetty’s jazz high tea, though, the images of pleasant Sunday afternoon were too much to resist. Given the event was sold out, I suspect everyone was conjuring similar images.

The afternoon was held in the newly refurbished Malvern Town Hall. I had been inside the quaint building prior to its refurbishment and had thought that it could be better utilised. It turned out that a high tea was a perfect occasion. The main hall was simply gorgeous, adorned with the finest table cloth and even finer china. It was very, very fancy!

Did I mention that the afternoon’s menu was being catered by Adriano Zumbo? Light, fluffy scones with rich jam and cream awaited us as we were shown to our seats (which were front and centre!). After a quick Paris and Citron tea we were ready for the aural feast.

Kate Hetty and her band were dressed for the occasion, and in no time had the crowd crooning to her unique style. She was a ton of fun and had us entertained over two amazing sets.

The other foodie delights: caramel tarts, apple, rosemary and chocolate verrine, banana and sea salt stickle and a savour mac and cheese filled our stomachs as the afternoon melded away. A quick look around the room saw a lot of happy faces, and just as many sated stomachs. This was billed as a feature event of the Stonnington Jazz festival and it didn’t let us down.
