Beer lovers of the South assemble! I am about to introduce you to your new local. In the quiet, unsuspecting back streets of Moorabbin resides 2 Brothers Brewery – a New York City style beer hall boasting character, 10+ beers and ciders on tap, and live music.
2 Brothers recently underwent a five week renovation, and I was invited to the launch party of the shiny new venue. I’m generally not the biggest beer drinker in the world, but I must admit, on this special occasion, I got frisky with a few of the boys on tap.
I started with a polite introduction to Lazy Boy Easy IPA. Sassy and to the point, it packs a serious hoppy punch. Bold and assertive – with too much hoppy bite for my taste, we graciously parted ways. I continued along my beer dating escapade.
There was Grizz American Amber. Welcoming, smooth, and balanced with hints of intricacy, and oh-so-drinkable. I could see us being friends…
And then there’s Hazella. The rebellious punk-rock-hazelnut-hair-dyed teenager. Not my typical type, but I did admire the alternative effort and his in-your-face personality. (Translation: an edgy ‘curious cross-pollination of Victorian grown hazelnuts from the town of Erica and Tasmania Ella Hops’ limited edition 2015 GABS speciality.)
And finally, I met my lover of the night: James. A Belgian Brown Ale who was mysterious, sultry, and dark. His savoury flavour lingered on my pallet after each sip. Yum. This relationship was headed in a great direction.
In addition to the fantastic characters I met, my plus one and I were serenaded with live music and endless pulled pork sliders the night through. Could I ask for a better Saturday evening?
2 Brothers is open Thursdays and Fridays with live acoustic music on both nights and gumboot brewery tours Thursday nights. I admit, it’s not the most convenient location for us inner-suburbians, but it’s a trip you won’t regret making!
