Comedy Festival: The Simpsons Taught Me Everything I Know

The headline kind of says it all! Simpsons lovers across Melbourne rejoiced at the chance to experience Yianni Agisilaou’s ode to one of the greatest TV series of all time, ‘The Simpsons Taught Me Everything I Know’. A series that, I might add, started in the year that I was born. I literally grew up with The Simpsons and being a massive fan of its Golden Age (seasons 3-9) I had to experience what Yianni had to offer. When I say Melburnians rejoiced, I mean it: Yianni’s shows have been sold out at every session, and I think he even put on additional shows on.

Yianni, an escapee from the field of law, starts the performance with a poll to determine the audience’s Simpsons knowledge. Four questions growing in difficulty (I got three), and a couple of complete the sentence slides: Lisa Needs Braces _____  _____.

More than just a collection of random Simpsons snippets, Yianni (who also performs in Comedians Against Humanity) does a great job at speaking to all levels of education. He focuses on the Golden Age and brings back oodles of nostalgia. He also draws sharp parallels between the Simpsons’ world and our own, with the show’s prescient power proving beyond doubt.

While you might not be able to catch the sold-out show this time around, if he comes back next year and you’re a Simpsons fan (or not), I’d highly recommend a trip down memory lane.
