Comedy Festival: Best of Edinburgh

I always love a bit of variety and every year the Best of Edinburgh serves up three stellar comedians who rocked Edinburgh Fringe. Each comedian is on for half an hour over the 1.5-hour show. The Plus Ones team in Edinburgh tore up the festival last year, and I was looking forward to experiencing a sliver of what they were privy to.

This year the three comedians, in order of appearance, rather than order of weight were: Danny O’Brien (Ireland), John Hastings (Canada) and Justin Moorhouse (UK). Post normal comedic railings with observations on the town they were in, each comedian settled well into their show.

Danny and John (the younger two) talked relationships and missteps while Justin talked married life. All three had moments of side-splitting hilarity but on the night John took the cake for me. It’s always great when you can resonate with a comedian’s own experiences, and his skit on always being on time drew sharp parallels with my own life. Does anyone else feel ‘late’ to an event if they are five minutes early or leave additional buffer time in case there is a door queue?

If you like a bit of variety and a fun night out give Best of Edinburgh a shot. The crowd was at capacity at the Forum Theatre on the Tuesday so I’d get in quick.
