I’m sure when the original Jurassic Park came out every kid (and adult) imagined what it would be like. We wondered whether humans and dinosaurs could co-exist, if we had the ability to revive a long-lost species from ancient mosquito DNA and whether we too would be plucked off a toilet seat into a T-Rex’s insatiable stomach. I’ve never really looked into the science, preferring to think that it IS possible. The Mr DNA animation is so wholly believable that I don’t want a two-second Google search to ruin the wonder.
Jurassic World at Melbourne Museum opened on 19 March and will run until 9 October 2016. The exhibition is frankly as good as the original Jurassic Park. Several separate dinosaur exhibitions showcase our favourites: brontosaurus, triceratops, raptors, and of course, Ms. T-Rex. My favourite setup was the raptor setting which brought back memories of the infamous first scene in Jurassic Park imploring the crew to ‘shooooot her’.
The Museum team’s objective is to transport you into a Jurassic time and they do it well. Overall I’d leave around 30 minutes to walk through the exhibition. You’re allowed to go through multiple times and then can head to the dinosaur walk and main museum exhibitions as a part of your ticket price.
