Australian Shakespeare Company: Tinkerbell & The Dream Fairies

I had the pleasure of attending The Australian Shakespeare Company‘s 2015 summer season, and couldn’t rate it highly enough. Some of those shows, such as ‘The Wind In The Willows’ and ‘Pirates of The Carribbean’, are running a second season – if you haven’t had the chance to wander over. When given the opportunity to check out their new 2016 season I jumped on for the ride. The shows are designed for the younger set, but as always, the interactivity brings out the kid in all of us.

Set in the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Australian Shakespeare team takes you on an adventure to find one of their lost fairies. There’s loads of singing, a ton of acrobatics (which I didn’t expect), and more tiny winged fairies than you could possibly imagine.

After getting everyone in the mood, we were taken to what can only be described as Melbourne’s largest bubble party. There were bubble carts, bubble buckets, and bubble wands spurting out their bubbly glory. The kids were in heaven. Ok, ok — I was in heaven. After a few more songs, and a lot more dancing, we were all well and truly sated!

If you’re going for an afternoon session I’d highly recommend taking a picnic blanket and a hamper or two to wile away an afternoon in the gardens. Shows are on twice per day at 10am and 12pm until 23 January. After the show you might also want to take on a free discovery walking tour of the gardens. Go on, make a day of it!
