Rubira’s First Birthday Celebration

Any seafood lovers out there? Rubira’s in North Melbourne sure knows how to put on a good seafood party.

I was lucky enough to be invited to Rubira’s first birthday party. Situated on Victoria Street, Rubira’s has a modest storefront. I wander through the doors and find myself in a whole new world of quaint old school charm. Antique chairs and tall tables pepper the dining room, with a substantial bar extending full length of the room.

I meander through the crowd and discover two more dining rooms resembling a lounge and a study; with cosy arm chairs and tall bookshelves lined with quaint décor. I can tell a lot of thought has gone into the restaurant interior, making it nothing short of an intimate dining experience. It was as if I had stepped into a classy dinner party in my grandfather’s sophisticated Melbourne home from the 1800s.

Rubira’s boasts “the freshest and best quality seafood in Melbourne.” Oysters three ways; baked with cheese, fried, and straight up were crowd favourites. As the night progressed, we were entertained with tangy citrus seared scallops, crispy calamari spring rolls, and fish and chips Rubira’s style: golden goodness tucked into perfectly sized single served cartons. The canapés definitely kept me coming back for more.

Live acoustic music, cocktail dresses and wine compliments of Eldredge Wines completed the evening. The crowd was having a grand time, and I couldn’t help myself from singing along with the band.

Delicious seafood and the exquisite ambiance at Rubira’s are two things I cannot argue with.
