Melbourne Museum’s Smart Bar series has been a feature of my event calendar for several years now. The concept brings the after work crowd to the museum and gets people learning whilst having a tipple or two – a bit like university. I love them. They hold all the elements (for me) that make for a great event: interaction, multiple exhibits, a range of lectures, music and of course – drinks!
Poison To Pestilence promised us live leech feedings, a python and some very cool lectures from people who are passionate about what they do. It is always evident that the expert presenters at these events love their jobs and are want to impart their knowledge onto the rest of us. It makes a huge difference when you can feel the presenters bursting with excitement when talking about their field. The museum staff also seem to love the events and one lucky Melbourne Museum employee was selected for the live leech feeding…
Smart Bar events are great value for money. Not being a regular museum goer, the Smart Bar allows me to explore the new exhibits, drink and learn. What more could I ask for? The interactive nature of many of the exhibits, incredible array of displays and the knowledge transfer on offer is vast. They actually combine incredibly well to make it a fun and different date spot. Think about it: drinks, history, interactive — it creates a ton of talking points and you/your date is never bored! Genius!
There are two Smart Bar events left this year in August and October. Hope that you manage to make it along to one or two!
