On the warmest day of the year so far I found myself standing in glorious sunshine in Inverleith Park amongst a host of foodies for the Foodies Festival Edinburgh on the opening day of the world renowned Edinburgh Fringe.
With a huge number of exciting exhibitors ranging from unique new microbrewery Campervan Brewery to BBQ meat and organic veggies it’s got something to suit every type of foodie! There is also a hefty contingent of gin distilleries including some with whom you can embark on a discovery of this particular tipple in the Tasting Theatre. If free sampling is your thing, this is the event for you. Stella Artois (of CIDRE not CIDER fame…) welcomes you on arrival with a hefty glass of summery apple brew to start you of on a sampling journey through macarons, oatcakes, jams and ice cream. The list goes on but your stomach may not!
With seven theatres showcasing the best chefs, wine tasting and produce in Scotland you’ll leave informed and well fed. The set up also including a Children’s Cookery tent so this is a day out for the whole family. After a session in the Cooks Theatre with heavyweight chef Mark Greenaway my plus one and I sprawled on the grass sipping a glass of champers while gazing onto a fabulous vista of Edinburgh Castle. Some fabulous live music filled the air and life seemed good. I can highly recommend you do the same.

At £13 per person this is excellent value especially if the sun is shining so you can take advantage of the grassy spaces which are perfect for catching up with friends over a glass of Pimms in this rare Scottish sunshine. If you miss out on the Foodie Festival summer event, fear not they will be touring the country and will be back in our fair city in November for further foodie adventures…
